HS Golf: Cohasset bounces back

Wicked Local South/Mariner, Marshfield, Mass. — William Wassersug Wicked Local South/Mariner, Marshfield, Mass.

May 16--The Cohasset girls golf team found itself in a bit of a jam last week when one of their top golfers was sick and the team had trouble making up for the loss.

Still, they were able to hang tough and win one of the three matches of the week, while coming up just short in the others.

"Last week the team tri-captain Kiley Crough was out sick and the team missed her presence dropping two of three matches," Cohasset coach Torin Sweeney said. "A loss to NDA and Ursuline were tough to take, but the team bounced back with a win against Mt. Alvernia on Thursday (May 10) that pushed their record to 11-3.

Monday May 14, at Norfolk Golf Course in Westwood Crough was back in action and the girls won both matches in the tri-meet.

Against Saugus Cohasset won 5.5 to .5 with Emily Moy, Crough, Jessica Moy, Courtney Shanley and Abigail Moy all winners. Brooke Driscoll tied.

In the rematch with Ursuline, the girls won a big match to stay in hunt for the league championship.

No. 1 player Jessica Moy was able to turn the table from one week before and beat her Ursuline opponent.

Sweeney said the lower part of his order came through.

"Jessica and Kiley were not as fortunate dropping close matches," Sweeney said, "Down 2-1 both Brooke and Courtney beat their Ursuline opponents after tying them at home the week before. That pushed us ahead 3-2 and waiting for eighth grader Abigail Moy to come in. Abigail came up with a big win to virtually keep the girls hope for a league championship alive. The team will need some help with other teams beating one another but still hold hope for their first league title."

Wedenesday May 15, Cohasset was scheduled to travel to Saugus for a rematch to wrap up the week (result unavailable at press time).

Monday May 21, the top four girls on each team will compete in the league tournament.

After that the team will finish their last five matches before going to the Sectional tournament on June, 5.
